David, a 17-year old yeshiva student, lives in Brighton Beach with his Russian immigrant family. Between regularly helping out as a tenth-man in area minyans and spending time at his grandfather’s senior housing complex, where he befriends a closeted elderly gay couple, David escapes to the East Village. It’s the 1980s and as David wrestles with his identity, faith, and sexuality, the HIV/AIDS crisis looms. Evocative and told with quiet humor, Minyan is based on a story by David Bezmozgis (Natasha, BJFF 2015)
