One day, Dory Sontheimer, a Barcelona native with German roots, discovers the terrifying past of her Jewish family, buried in the attic of her room. She finds a detailed account of the suffering her parents went through to escape the Nazi regime, all hidden away for decades in seven boxes. Accompanied by historians, writers, and journalists, she embarks on a journey from Catalonia to the United States, passing through Germany, the Czech Republic, Argentina, and many other places to meet her unknown relatives and restore her history.
