Moti Bernstein (Amit Rahav, The Damned BJFF 2019) is the perfect “catch,” at least according to his ultra-Orthodox family and his two matchmakers (one played by Irit Kaplan, Apples from the Desert BJFF 2015, Kiss Me Kosher BJFF 2022), who send the young yeshiva student on a flurry of dates with eligible Ashkenazi women. But Moti only has eyes for his sister’s friend Nechama, who hails from a Moroccan Mizrahi family. Throwing caution—and taboo—to the wind, Moti moves to win the hand of his Sephardic love. A Haredi take on the Romeo and Juliet story directed by Erez Tadmor (Co-director Magic Men, BJFF 2014, Co-director Stranger, BJFF 2008), this romantic comedy is Israel’s biggest 2023 box office hit.
Followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with Writer/Director Erez Tadmor and Actress Marni Woolf, moderated by Avner Shavit.
